Muhammad Abushaqra is a public policy expert and lawyer based in Cairo, Egypt. He is the Policy Coordinator of the Effective Planning and Services Project (EPSP) of AECOM International Development. For 9 years, Muhammad has been involved extensively in the public policy, sustainable development and the political & civil society arena on the local, regional and international levels. As a country coordinator for the German Marshall Fund of the United States, he led the work of the MENA Partnership for Democracy and Development in Egypt. Previously, Muhammad was a Program Manager at the Library of Alexandria where he worked for 6 years at its Institute for Peace Studies (IPS) and the Center for Democracy and Social Peace Studies (CDSPS). Muhammad’s engagement in civil society started by his work in the Sustainable Development Association (SDA) in 2006. Besides he was the National Coordinator of the Youth, Entrepreneurship & Sustainability (YES Inc.). In 2008, Abushaqra was elected as the Secretary General of the Arab Society for Commercial and Maritime Law (ASCML). He has participated in several leadership development programs and is a member of several international networks, namely; an alumnus of the German Council on Foreign Relations, US Department of State International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP), the Transatlantic Leadership Initiative of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAoC), and the Global Shapers Community of the World Economic Forum. Besides, he is a frequent commentator on the Egyptian and Middle East Affairs in different international platforms like the World Economic Forum, the Brussels Forum, the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Muhammad holds L.L.B from Alexandria University in Public Law, and a Masters of Public Affairs (MPA) from Sciences Po, Paris, with concentrations in global energy and sustainability policy and governance, and economic and territorial development.q
